ArcelorMittal Stainless Europe entwickelt Tailored Blanks aus nichtrostendem Stahl für Abgasanlagen, um seinen Kunden Leichtbaulösungen anzubieten.

Die Technologie zeichnet sich durch das Verschweißen von Blechzuschnitten (oder Coils) unterschiedlicher Abmessungen (Länge, Breite und Dicke) aus, um die Anforderungen der Kunden zu erfüllen: das richtige Material an der richtigen Stelle.

Der Einsatz von Tailored Blanks ermöglicht die Verbindung von zwei Sorten nichtrostender Stähle (austenitisch und ferritisch) entsprechend der anwendungsspezifischen Anforderungen. Der optimierte nichtrostende Stahl kann so an der richtigen Stelle eingesetzt werden, was eine Reduktion der Materialkosten ermöglicht.

Stainless steel tailored blank for exhaust

• Context:

Automobile industry has to face to a big challenge in the coming years: reduce the CO2 emissions and also produce cars environment friendly.

• ArcelorMittal Stainless Europe solution:

ArcelorMittal Stainless Europe develops the "tailored blanks" for stainless steel exhaust to offer its customers solutions in terms of lightweighting.

The technology consists of an assembly by welding of several blanks (or coils) of different dimensions (length, width and thickness) in order to fulfill as closely as possible customer demand: the right size at the right place.

The use of the tailored blanks permits also to match 2 different stainless steel grades (austenitic

and ferritic) depending on the requirement of the application. The most optimized stainless steel could be also used at the right place which is an opportunity to reduce the total material cost.

• Solution demonstrated by ArcelorMittal Stainless Europe during the messe in Hannover:

A stainless steel welded blank dedicated for cold end from exhaust line, dimension: 1000x600mm, weight: 4,6kgs composed with ferritic 1.4513 (K33X), 0.8mm and 1.4510 (K39M), 1.2mm
